What’s life look like for you right now? Are you in a tough season? Maybe it’s felt like you’ve flat lined and you need to be awakened to just how good you have it — how blessed you truly are. Or…maybe life has just been a flow of good things lately.
Either way, we have moments where we have a hard time finding the good in a dark world. Times when we have to turn the flashlight on to find the pockets of good when it’s hard to see. How? I have a few things, a thought process to get your fight back. To reclaim Gods hope, joy and peace — the good plan he has for you.
So first, turn the flashlight on. Focus extra hard on the good things when everything around you seems dark. Philippians 4:8 tells us to do this: “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things”. We get to choose what we illuminate. What will you choose? The good things in the midst of the darkness, or will you let the darkness that’s all around you consume you? Use your flashlight.

Second, good things can sometimes coincide with bad things. You can either enjoy the journey, or dwell on what you don’t like about it. It’s by design that we have a choice to embrace the journey this way. Paul says it best in Romans 7: 19-25:
“For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it. So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law, but in my sinful nature a slave to the law of sin”.
Lastly, realize your life is a miracle. YOU are a miracle. Look where you were, to where you are now. Look at your testimony. God did that! He brought you from glory to glory — each better than the next, and stuck with you in the in between. Recount His faithfulness and give Him praise! Ponder on everything He’s already done and let that fire you up with trust and hope in Him of what’s to come! Psalm 139:14: “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well”.
As the world seems increasingly dark each year, we can still choose to turn on our internal flashlights. We can be the city on a hill where we choose to keep the light on rather than sit helpless in darkness. Matthew 5: 14-16: “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven”.
So put some fresh batteries in your internal flashlight and remind yourself who your identity is in. You are a bright city on a hill for Jesus that is meant to be seen! Illuminate the good things in your life and let YOUR light shine.
