How we can pray for Israel right now

My heart sank like so many of us when I saw the extent of devastation and war in Israel right now. Peppered in between memes and reels were several pictures of the cities that had been obliterated, with “pray for Israel” plastered on them. I paused to pray but it felt intense, like something bigger is at play.

I opened my Bible and immediately and noticed the correlations of the text to real life. Starting with Micah chapter 6, the heading in my chronological Bible read, “the Lords case against Israel”. It followed with “Israel’s guilt and punishment”, then “misery turned to hope” and ended with “the Lords compassion on Israel”. There was no mistake that this was the reading God had put in my lap for a reason. The timing made me awe at God. Although the book of Micah is referring to a different time in history, the Holy Spirit was directing me here and it felt eerily undeniable. God is doing something that is beyond our understanding right now in the Middle East. But what was clear to me as I landed on the last section, Micah 7: 14-20, was that it was like a historical guide of exactly how to pray. Reading through, God gave me the perfect scriptures to pray over Israel.

I’ve highlighted the following scriptures you can pray through as well:

14 O LORD, protect your people with your shepherd’s staff; lead your flock, your special possession. Though they live alone in a thicket on the heights of Mount Carmel, let them graze in the fertile pastures of Bashan and Gilead as they did long ago.

15 “Yes,” says the LORD, “I will do mighty miracles for you, like those I did when I rescued you from slavery in Egypt.

16 All the nations of the world will stand amazed at what the LORD will do for you. They will be embarrassed at their feeble power. They will cover their mouths in silent awe, deaf to everything around them.

17 Like snakes crawling from their holes, they will come out to meet the LORD our God. They will fear him greatly, trembling in terror at his presence.

18 Where is another God like you, who pardons the guilt of the remnant, overlooking the sins of his special people? You will not stay angry with your people forever, because you delight in showing unfailing love.

19 Once again you will have compassion on us. You will trample our sins under your feet and throw them into the depths of the ocean!

20 You will show us your faithfulness and unfailing love as you promised to our ancestors Abraham and Jacob long ago.

Some more prompts to pray through:

*That the Lord would protect His people

*That this devastation would cause His people to tremble at how great He is and trust that He’s in control

*That Gods will would be done on earth as it is in heaven even when we don’t understand *That the Christians in the affected areas would rise up and fearlessly speak about the Lord, and bring non-believers to Christ during this time

*That Gods people would feel Gods peace and hope in the midst of the turmoil

I encourage you to crack open your Bible and read through Micah 6-7 too, to see if you have any revelation yourself about this time. It’s hard to hear about another negative thing, but we can rest in the truth that God is working it out, and He hears our prayers. Have a great rest of your week!
